Rental Information

Howell Township Public Schools

Instrumental Music Department

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Your child recently saw a presentation explaining how to participate in the Instrumental Music Program. All students in the 4th and 5th grade may begin taking lessons on band instruments this fall. Instrumental music instruction is offered weekly during the school day. The schedule is designed to include a rotating small group lesson and a fixed ensemble time, which will contribute to your childʼs educational success.

The following instruments are taught:

Flute, Clarinet, ALTO Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone and Bell Kit (Keyboard Percussion)**

**Please note: Only Bell Kits will be offered to 4th grade students interested in a percussion instrument at this time.

How Much Does It Cost?

Instrumental music instruction is absolutely FREE! You will just need to provide your child with an instrument in good working order, the Measures of Success Book 1 and a protective bell covering depending upon the instrument you have chosen.

How Do I Get an Instrument for My Child?

You may buy, rent or borrow from any source.

If you choose to rent an instrument, Russo Music (www.russomusicsymphonic.com)  is suggested for your convenience and consideration. (Sweet Music Academy, Rt 9 and Aldrich Rd, is affiliated with Russo Music.) Instrument rental information, pricing, delivery and payment options can be found on their website. All transactions are done DIRECTLY through the rental company. Rental forms and payment will not be accepted at school.

If you intend to purchase or borrow an instrument from another source (i.e. internet, Amazon, eBay, neighbor, family member) please consult me first, so I can assist you in determining the quality of the instrument you are considering. All instruments need to be in excellent working condition.

*Clarinet and alto saxophone players will need to purchase reeds in order for the instrument to work. A minimum of 3 working reeds at all times is highly recommended.

*Clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet and trombone players will need to purchase a bell cover for their respective instrument. Recommended items: Gator Cases Double-layer aerosol cover with Merv 13 filter.

I would love to work with your child!  Their success in this content area will be directly proportional to the amount of time they spend practicing the instrument at home. Please complete the permission slip included and return it to school prior to September 23, 2021. Lessons will begin the week of September 27, 2021.

Thank you in advance for giving your child the wonderful opportunity to benefit from this educational experience. Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns at [email protected]

Regards,
