Dear Aldrich Parents,

Welcome to Aldrich School!

Here is some information from the Health Office that will be helpful to you.

Illness:
If you suspect your child is ill, please keep him/her home. Please report the illness on the absentee line at Aldrich School ext. 2490. A child must be fever free for 24 hours (without the aid of fever reducing medication) and after 24 hours when on antibiotic therapy for illness and conjunctivitis (pink eye) before returning to school. A fever is a temperature, taken orally, of 100 degrees or higher.
A recommended website for all medical information: www.cdc.gov.

Medication:
PLEASE, NO COUGH DROPS AT SCHOOL.
IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY FOR OUR STUDENTS, ALL MEDICATIONS MUST BE BROUGHT INTO SCHOOL AND GIVEN TO THE NURSE. MEDICATIONS CANNOT BE TRANSPORTED BY THE STUDENT ON THE BUS. PROPER FORMS BY THE DOCTOR AND PARENT MUST BE COMPLETED. SEE LINK BELOW.

Allergies:
If your child has a food allergy, please alert the school nurse. If you have written this information on the green emergency card and pink medical alert card, you may be asked to complete a form which provides more information about this allergy and treatment if needed. Forms are on the link below.
Because the majority of allergic reactions involve peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, milk, soy and wheat, it is recommended any foods containing these items not be sent to school for parties /celebrations. Many foods are processed at the same time as foods with nuts and there can be traces of nuts present without actually containing a nut. Please read labels. There are many ways to celebrate “Fun Food-Free Parties”. Check with the nurse or teachers.

Snacks:
Please encourage your child to bring a healthy snack and lunch to school. Soda, chips and candy are examples of foods of minimal nutritional value because they are usually high in sugar content or processed in such a way that they do not provide any nutritional value.
Learning to read food labels can be a very informative activity and educational for your family. Ingredients are important. For example, if you are buying candy, sugar is the largest ingredient and that would be listed first. Other ingredients would be listed based on their percentage in that particular type of candy. Check the ingredients in cereals and snack bars.

Safety:
Safety is of high priority. Please have your children wear proper footwear and clothing each day for outdoor recess and gym.
***** IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR 5TH GRADE PARENTS *****
2 IMMUNIZATIONS REQUIRED BEFORE ENTERING 6th GRADE: Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis and meningococcal vaccine)
FORMS ARE AVAILABLE FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE OR FORMS CAN BE FOUND AND DOWNLOADED ON ALDRICH SCHOOL HOME WEB PAGE, AND HOWELL TOWNSHIP HOME WEB PAGE, AND ON THE LINK BELOW.

Please contact the Health Office with any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
